DURBAN – A 75-year-old man handed himself over to the Greytown police on Monday for allegedly killing a sugarcane farmer on Sunday.

Rajithkumar Ajay Haripersaad, 58, was found dead with gunshot wounds to the chest and hand on his farm, Graceland, in Muden on Sunday afternoon.

It is alleged that Haripersaad had an argument with a man over the cattle grazing on his farm before he was shot dead in front on his employees.

He is survived by his wife Reshma and his three children Pranesh, Pranisha and Bhavana.

The suspect who is believed to have been known to the suspect will appear in court soon.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said a murder case was opened at Muden police station.

“The police received a complaint of a shooting that took place at Graceland in Muden on October 24, 2021, at 3.30pm.

“Police proceeded to the scene and found the body of a 58-year-old male victim with gunshot wounds to the chest and hand. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated and a case of murder has been opened at Muden SAPS, said Mbele.”

Haripersaad will be laid to rest on Wednesday at his residence in Cato Ridge.
