DURBAN - INVESTIGATIONS were under way to find the suspects responsible for the brazen murders of three people which took place in one day just hours apart in Shallcross and eMdloti.

On Tuesday afternoon ANC activist Linda Nala, 43, was gunned down inside his home in Burlington Heights in front of his wife.

That evening an Inanda taxi owner and his bodyguard were killed in a drive-by shooting on North Beach Road in eMdloti.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said when police arrived they found Nala lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.

Mbele said it is alleged that Nala and his wife, Sanelisiwe Ntsele, 32, heard a knock on the door and went to investigate.

“The suspect instructed the victims to come outside. When they refused, he opened fire, fatally wounding Nala.”

Ntsele told the Daily News that Nala had peeped through the kitchen window when he heard the knock.

She said they heard later from neighbours that another man was standing outside the lounge door. She heard that the men were dropped off by a car on the roadside.

“The man kept calling Linda outside. I then heard the bangs. They shot at Linda through the open window.”

They have a 3-year-old daughter together. Ntsele said she was concerned for her and the child’s safety.

Nala was an active member of the eThekwini ANC ward 65 branch.

“It was a well-planned hit,” said Ntsele.

“They stood outside the door anticipating that if he came out of either door they would catch him.

“I believe it is politically motivated. It’s not the first time his life was threatened.”

Ward 65 councillor Samantha Windvogel said it was a tragic incident and she hoped police would get to the bottom of it.
