Durban - An ambulance service that fatally colided with three pedestrians in Cato Manor on Monday morning while responding to a medical emergency had allegedly tried to avoid a taxi that had stopped on the middle of the road.
According to KZN police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele the response vehicle had been travelling on Booth Road when the driver of a taxi had allegedly stopped in the middle of the road.
"The driver of the response vehicle tried to avoid colliding with the taxi but he struck four pedestrians that were on the side of the road."
Mbele said one of the pedestrians believed to be 28-years-old died at the scene.
Three patients were taken to hospital for medical attention. Two of the pedestrian later passed away. "
One person remains in hospital.
Mbele said the circumstances surrounding the accident is being investigated.
Three case of culpable homicide were opened.
