Durban-  A third doctors surgery was robbed in the space of two weeks in Phoenix, north of Durban on Tuesday.

On Lenham Drive, Drive,  Dr Kovenden's surgery had been the target just after 4 pm. Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, said the doctor was in his surgery when two men confronted him.

"At gunpoint, the suspects robbed him of cash before fleeing the scene on foot.  A case of robbery was opened at Phoenix police station for investigation," Mbele said.

A source said three people entered the surgery pretending to be patients. Two of them had firearms while a third had an Okapi knife. \

A source said eight patients were also robbed of their cellphones. The security guard was also robbed of his cellphone.

Robbers with the same modus operandi held up Dr Yunus Akoonjee's surgery last week Monday and Dr Abdul Karims surgery on Thursday.

In both instances, the robbers were well dressed and concealed weapons in branded shopping bags.
