Durban- The state has granted a request for bail to be given to Musawenkosi Ndebele - one of the men accused of killing two Durban Metro police officers last month.
The detective handling the case, Warrant Officer David Cele, in an affidavit said there was no evidence to place Ndebele at the scene of the shooting.
He said investigations showed that there was evidence that he conspired to murder the metro police officers.
Magistrate Rajesh Parshotam agreed to the request and granted bail of R2 000 with a condition that Ndebele not leave the Inanda area.
He has been charged alongside Nkululeko Zuma, 19, Bonginkosi Msomi, 20 and Thamsanqa Zuma, 29 who stand accused of murdering Constable Nomasonto Mhlanga and Sergeant Zephinia Dladla who were guarding a local councillor's homes.
The death of the two police officers saw a swelling of public anger. A vigil held for the police officers was attended by police minister Bheki Cele who expressed anger at the act.
It was only a matter of a few days after the death of the police officers that they tracked down the suspects and arrested them. One of the suspects ,Zuma, was injured when he allegedly got into a gunfight with police officers. He made a separate appearance from the other three suspects about two weeks ago as he had been recovering in hospital.
