Durban – Help and donations continue to pour in for flood-stricken victims in KwaZulu-Natal.

A businessman and well-known polygamist, Boni Ngubane, donated food parcels to 10 families who were affected by the floods in Umlazi, south of Durban.

Ngubane who is a brother to the late Generations star Menzi Ngubane could not attend because he was held up in another engagement, but instead he sent his first wife Nonhlanhla Ngubane to give donations out on his behalf on Sunday.

The event was held at Agape Fellowship Church in S section. Ngubane was accompanied by KZN deputy director of Public Prosecutions advocate Fatima Khawula, who is also a member of the church.

It was Khawula who asked Ngubane to assist the affected families. Khawula said as a person who was born and raised in the township, she felt she must try to source help for the community she grew up with, and approached Ngubane who agreed to help.

The church is under the leadership of bishop Sithembiso Cele and his wife pastor Bongiwe Cele. Pastor Bongiwe thanked Ngubane and said the church was also grateful to Khawula who used her network for the benefit of the church and the poor in the township.

She said some of the beneficiaries were not members of the church and the donations were open to everyone who was affected by the disastrous floods.

One of the beneficiaries Nokuthula Mpisane of H section thanked the church and Ngubane for his generosity. She said the floods had washed away her RDP house and she had to go and live with neighbours.

“We are grateful to the church and Ngubane for this help. I never expected to get this as I am not a member of the church so we are really grateful to advocate Khawula, church and Ngubane,” said Mpisane.

Ngubane’s wife Nonhlanhla said she was deeply touched by the devastation caused by the floods in communities and decided to lend a hand.
