Durban - A Chatsworth drug dealer allegedly tried to buy his way out of jail after he was arrested in possession of 19 capsules of heroin during an uncover police operation.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, said police officers from the Ethekwini Inner South Cluster conducted operations and arrested two men aged 25 and 34 at a service station near the N2 freeway with drugs in their possession.

Mbele said the arrests were part of Operation Fiela.

"Police received information with regards to the delivery of drugs. The men were found with 500 capsules of heroin with a street value of R10,000-00. A firearm was also seized. They were both taken to Newlands East police station. They were charged and appeared in the Verulam Magistrates Court for the possession of drugs,"she said.

Mbele said police continued to Welbadacht where they arrested a 28-year-old man with 19 capsules of heroin.

She said the man assaulted the police officers who had approached him to conduct a search.

"When the arrest was effected, the man offered cash to the police officers so that he can be released. He was then taken to Chatsworth police station where he was charged for possession of drugs, assault on police and bribery,"she added.

Mbele said the outcome of the court cases were not known at this stage.
