DURBAN - A debut author from Kharwastan hopes her book inspires the power of transformation and the importance of people to invest in themselves.

Tilly Govender, 59, the CEO of Mindwiz Transformation Academy, a motivational speaker, coach, mentor and recently, an author, launched her poem book titled Soul Nourisher in the company of friends and family at the Durban Country Club on Saturday.

Govender said the book is based on her experiences of surviving cancer, divorce, death and depression.

“It is an anthology of poems and original sayings and quotations. It encapsulates lessons I learnt from my diverse experiences as a teacher, lawyer, advisor and coach. It narrates how I have turned my 4 Ds in life – dread disease, death, divorce and depression around.”

“I had all this wisdom inside of me that I gained from life’s hard knocks and my diverse career experiences. The valuable reflections I gathered throughout my career, which crossed over from education to law to finance to leadership development to coaching, was what prompted me to pick up my pen and record these poems in some tangible way that would last longer than my steps on the pathways of life,” said Govender.

She said during her tough times she thought of ways to offer a message to the world to help people transform their lives.

Govender said one can overcome any obstacle and challenge in life through the power of self-mastery and leadership. All the solutions we seek in life lies within, Govender said.

“If we all can concentrate on our own inner growth and nourishment the world will be a better place. We have the power of making heaven on earth,” she said.

Govender had multiple sources of inspiration, drawing on her experiences from teaching English to aspiring high school students. This is where her first inclinations and love to compose prose ignited.

Her other inspirations are reading, dancing, writing, streaming, socialising and beach walks.

Describing the themes of the book she said there are over 35 poems, including inspirational sayings and quotes with diverse themes, ranging from the art of self-mastery, dealing with rejection, death and self-sabotage.

Govender’s messages to readers are to invest in coaches and mentors as they are suitably equipped to find blindspots and ignite one’s soul to radiate and find true purpose and meaning in life.
