Durban – The Elders Voice KZN has been given an extension to come up with the rest of the deposit it needs to pay to secure the property it wants to buy in Pennington on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

Founder Joanne Herbst said yesterday they still needed about R145 000 before their new May 15, 2022, deadline.

The Elders Voice needed to raised R500 000 for the deposit and now they are only about R145 000 short.

“It’s difficult to get help during this time; it seems nearly impossible,” Herbst said.

“It’s within our grasp but we just can’t get there.”

On Monday, Herbst had posted a video on their Facebook page where she gave an update and thanked those who had helped.

In the video, Herbst said it had been a rough couple of weeks but life goes on.

“So the owners of Pennington; I had a long meeting with them and we have been given the grace to raise the money under every circumstance that has happened to date,” she said.

Herbst went on to break down the different scenarios how the shortfall could be raised.

“It’s basically R150 000 odd, which basically works out to 15 companies who each donate R10 000, or city companies who each help us with R5 000. Alternatively, 150 individuals who each help us with R1 000 or 300 individuals who each help us with R500,” Herbst said.

He said Elders Voice KZN almost had 10 000 followers. He felt that somewhere along the line, there had to be some people who could assist.

“It is happening. We’re looking at moving in that direction in June or July. But we do need to come up with the money and we need to come up with it relatively quickly,” Herbst said.

“Miracles possibly take a little bit longer, but we’re getting there guys. Faith like potatoes; keep the faith, keep sharing and our legacy is well within reach.”

According to the description of the property on an estate agency website, the property has 30 bedrooms, 10 reception rooms, 11 bathrooms, 12 kitchens, one garage, security, a pool, three hectares of land, a children’s play area and a conference room.

The resort can accommodate up to 100 visitors. Each chalet has its own bathroom, braai area, TV set with local channels, and an equipped kitchen.

A lodge is set up away from all the other units and the main building. It consists of a kitchen, an open-plan roofed area and a sundeck, and accommodates up to 14 people in 3 bedrooms. The bungalow sleeps up to 22 people on bunk beds. The cottage accommodates only two. There are eight log cabins which have communal ablution facilities, shared with a number of camp-sites.
