Durban - A 27-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on a charge of theft after he allegedly stole two flat-screen TVs from a guest house in eManzimtoti on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed that a suspect was arrested by Amanzimtoti police after the theft.

ET Rapid Response managing director Tony Lokker said around 5.52am on Tuesday morning their control centre received a call from a client requesting armed response. The manager of a B&B needed assistance.

The response team and the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) were immediately dispatched.

“Upon our arrival, two males who were trying to depart from the premises were pointed out by the manager,” Lokker said.

“The two were detained by our ET response team, CCPO and Blue Security.

“This suspect booked into the B&B, and in the early hours of the morning tried to leave the premises with two 65-inch flat screens as extra souvenirs. Fortunately the manager on duty was sharp and called us immediately,” Lokker explained.

He said their tactical response team, CCPO and the SAPS interviewed the suspect and were then taken to another B&B in eManzimtoti.

“Here we found his clothing along with some other items in his suitcase,” Lokker said.

“Among the items were very new, white nightgowns. Fortunately the names were on the gowns. The premises was located, which turned out to be a B&B in Pietermaritzburg.

“The owner confirmed these items were stolen from his premises, along with two big flat-screen TVs,” Lokker added.

He said the suspect was detained and charged at Amanzimtoti SAPS.

However, the Uber driver, who was the second person arrested, was released and not charged.

ET Rapid Response called for other B&Bs in KwaZulu-Natal or Durban who have similar incidents to call Tony Lokker on 083 254 2691.
