Life imprisonment for hitman and man who had his brother killed for their late father’s wealth

DURBAN - The Eshowe Regional Court sentenced a brother and a hitman to life imprisonment for murder.

On Tuesday, Nqaba Mbonambi, 23, and Senzo Ndlovu, 36, were sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Busizwe Mbonambi, 27.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said on December 14, 2019, at 2am, Busizwe Mbonambi was sleeping in his room at the Dendethu Reserve in Sundumbili when he was attacked by the accused.

They forced the door open, opened fire and fatally wounded him. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body. A murder case was opened at Sundumbili police station and the docket was transferred to Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team for further investigation.

“The accused left the area and went into hiding, three days after the incident they were traced to T Section in uMlazi. During the arrest Ndlovu was found in possession of the firearm used to kill the victim,” Mbele said.

She said Ndlovu was charged for murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, while Mbonambi was charged for murder. Both accused made several court appearances until they were convicted and sentenced.

“Following the intensive investigation by the detectives, it was revealed that Nqaba hired the hitman to kill his older brother so he could inherit his late father’s wealth,” Mbele said.

“Hitman Senzo Ndlovu was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 19 years for unlawful possession of a firearm. Nqaba Mbonambi was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.”
