DURBAN - Football Club owner and businesswoman, Shauwn “MaMkhize '' Mkhize, has been criticised on social media for rewarding her Royal AM FC players with cash on the field, over the weekend.

A video that has gone viral, shows her entering the field with the cash after her side walked away with bragging rights following their KZN derby win by 2-1 against Maritzburg United at Chatsworth Stadium. Her team is now among the top-three on the DStv Premiership table.

In the video, MaMkhize, with her son Andile Mpisane, who is also the club chairperson, is seen taking money from a huge brown envelope heading towards the players.

The pair, who were dancing with excitement following a late win in the match, were on the pitch to handover the money to their players.

In the video, someone is heard saying: “You play for the best, come take your sweets, get in line.”

It seems that some of the players were unimpressed by the owners’ gesture. One of the Royal AM players was heard pleading with the coach to tell the management not to bring money on the pitch.

“Please coach, tell them to not come with the money here..." said the player.

The club was also lambasted by many on Twitter who described the owners’ actions as unprofessional and disrespectful toward the players.
