Durban - A 40-year-old-man who shot a passerby on Clarecroft Road in Phoenix, will appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court on Monday. 

Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, a KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, said the complainant alleged that at 20:50, he was walking along the road when he was attacked by a suspect known to him.

"The suspect opened fire wounding the victim. A case of attempted murder was opened at Phoenix police station for investigation," Mbele said.

He was transported to a medical facility by KZN VIP Medical and Rescue. 

In Verulam, two people were shot outside a tavern while they were seated inside a Toyota Corolla. 

Prem Balram, of private security company Reaction Unit South Africa, said two unknown men approached the vehicle and fired a volley of shots at them. 

"The gunmen then got into a white bakkie which sped of from the scene. One of the victims was treated for a gunshot wound to his face while the second victim sustained gunshot wounds to his back and his right arm. Both men were treated on scene and transported to a hospital in a stable condition. Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene," Balram said.
