Durban - Mourners have begun flocking to the home  of the late former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa in the wake of his father, Sam Meyiwa's death.

After hearing of the passing of Sam Meyiwa, mourners and journalists gathered outside the Meyiwa home in uMlazi's K Section.

Family representative, Siyabonga Meyiwa, addressed journalists and informed them that Sam died in the early hours of Monday morning after failing to recover from the stroke he suffered in the middle of 2018.

"His health deteriorated from that point on and he was never the same," Siyabonga said.

"He passed on in family comfort, with his wife, surrounded by family members."

Neighbours on Mgaga Road in uMlazi, K section, said they were shocked to hear about Sam's passing.

Nathi Ngwenya, spokesperson, said it was still early to determine where and when the funeral would take place but the family was already making the necessary arrangements.

"We hope to release a statement before the end of the day," Ngwenya said.

Meyiwa representatives also expressed their sadness since Sam died without knowing who was responsible for Senzo's death in 2014.

Senzo was shot and killed at his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo's family home.
