DURBAN - Six stock theft and armed robbery suspects are expected to appear before the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after they were arrested while hiding at a traditional healer’s homestead.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the suspects, aged between 23 and 60, were arrested during a joint multidisciplinary operation in Hlobane and Vryheid, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Mbele said the officers had received information on the whereabouts of wanted stock theft and armed robbery suspects.

“Police proceeded to KwaHlathi Road in Ekuvukeni at the homestead of a traditional healer where the suspects were hiding. Police found the suspects on the premises and immediately arrested them.

“Four pistols, along with 26 rounds of ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash were recovered by police. Two vehicles were seized and taken to the pound for further investigation,” Mbele said.

She said all six suspects were being held at the Hlobane police station.

In July, seven armed robbers were arrested at a traditional healer’s homestead.

Police pounced on the robbers at the traditional healer’s homestead while they were there for cleansing and protection.

Police proceeded to the traditional healer’s homestead in KwaDukuza where they spotted the said vehicle and approached the suspects. The suspects spotted police, ran towards the Woodstock dam, and jumped in. Five suspects were arrested in the river and two suspects were arrested at the homestead.

The arrested suspects were aged between 30 and 40 and appeared in court for robbery and the illegal possession of firearms.
