Durban - Thirty people who were arrested for public violence in KwaDlangezwa near Richards Bay are appeared in court on Tuesday.

On Monday at 9 pm, a group of people stormed the satellite police station at Vulindlela said Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson. 

Mbele said they attacked the satellite station with stones and also set it alight. 

No injuries were reported.

A total of 30 suspects were arrested during a violent protest when a group of UniZulu students embarked in protest action.  

They appeared in the Esikhaleni Magistrates’ Court for public violence. 

They were remanded into police custody until September 23, 2019.

"Acts of violence, intimidation and destruction of property are criminal offences. We will not tolerate any acts of violence and intimidation that seek to undermine government’s efforts to ensure the stability of the country. Security personnel will act decisively against individuals who engage in acts of intimidation, incitement or violence," Mbele said.

Charges of public violence and arson are being investigated by Mtunzini SAPS and was under investigation. 

Mbele said the condemned  the attack on a state institution and appealed to anyone who might have information about the suspects involved to urgently contact their local police or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
