Private security company and police arrest ’business burglars’ with the loot within 24 hours of committing the crime

DURBAN – Marshall Security and the Phoenix Trio Crime Unit arrested three suspected business burglars within 24 hours of committing the crime.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said Marshall Security was working on intelligence alongside the Phoenix Trio Crime Unit after a business burglary in uMhlanga, north of Durban, on Friday night. Three suspects were arrested within 24 hours before they could offload the stolen goods.

Powell said at approximately 7.30pm on Friday night, Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted to a business burglary that had occurred at a well-known office building, which was not being monitored by Marshall, on Ridge Road.

“Three suspects driving a silver Toyota Etios had entered the office building and forced their way into a call centre where they stole an undisclosed amount of computer towers,” Powell said.

He said not even 24 hours later, at around 5.30pm on Saturday afternoon, members of their Special Operations Team working on intelligence in connection with the burglary together with the Phoenix Trio Crime Unit had spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the business burglary on Amanzimtoti Road in the KwaMashu area.

“In a combined effort with the Phoenix Trio Crime Unit, the vehicle was stopped and three suspects matching the description of the suspects involved in the business burglary were immediately arrested. Upon searching the vehicle 16x computer towers that were stolen in the business burglary were found inside and recovered,” Powell said.

“It is believed that the suspects were on their way to sell the stolen property, but were stopped in their tracks,” Powell said.

He said all three suspects, the stolen items and vehicle used in the commission of the crime, were taken to the KwaMashu police station for further investigation and processing.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said three men aged between 33 and 36 were expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on charge for possession of suspected stolen property.
