DURBAN - FORMER president Jacob Zuma is expected to finally make a public appearance as his supporters prepare for a massive welcome celebration bash next week.
The JG Zuma Foundation has set Saturday next week as the day of his “welcome celebration prayer”. Spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi said more information would be announced at a media briefing.
Although Manyi did not give details, the foundation’s post on its Twitter account says faith-based and religious organisations, non-governmental organisations and all political parties are invited to a welcome prayer for Zuma in KZN.
Zuma’s brother Khanya said the foundation had more details about the event, but that the Daily News was welcome to go to Nkandla next week.
He said his brother was not yet home, and would discuss the event when he was back.
“Since he came back from prison, our discussion was more about family issues, but we will discuss the gathering when he comes back home, for now he is not home.
“The foundation has more details about the event but you are welcome to be with us next week,” said Khanya Zuma.
Radical Transformation Forces provincial leader Nkosentsha Shezi said preparations were already under way for the former president’s “welcome celebration rally” in Nkandla.
He said that as his supporters, they would be there in big numbers since Covid-19 protocols had been relaxed.
ANC provincial spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela said the party was not aware of the event.
The Daily News reported last week that the former president was resting at his home after quietly slipping back home from 1 Military hospital in Pretoria, to which he was admitted in August to undergo an operation.
His discharge from the hospital was kept a secret, and his foundation repeatedly refused to confirm it until his family and the ANC broke the news to the Daily News last week.
