DURBAN - A teenage boy and two men were arrested by police in two separate drug-related crimes over the long weekend.

On Monday, Metro Police arrested a 17-year-old boy in Chatsworth for drug possession.

Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said: “The suspect was arrested for the possession of 62 pieces of suspected rock cocaine and three tablets of suspect mandrax, all with the street value of R6 350. He was also in the possession of cash to the value of R500.”

Sewpersad said the youth was detained at the Bayview police station.

Meanwhile, between March 17 and 18, in a joint operation on Thuthuka Road in Coffee Farm, KwaNdengezi, police followed up on information regarding a firearm that was used in the murder of Sizwe Armstrong "Maqhoboza” Nzuza, 28.

“A pistol with four rounds of ammunition was found inside the house but the suspect fled the scene upon the arrival of the police,” said police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

She said that on March 6, 2022, at 10.30am, Nzuza and another man were allegedly shot by the suspect at Coffee Farm. They sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were taken to a local clinic where Nzuza died. A case of murder was being investigated by the KwaNdengezi SAPS.

Mbele said the next day, a team of officers proceeded to a flat on Silvertree Road in Wentworth. The police officers were following up on information about drug dealing in the flat.

“Upon entering the flat, police found 387 capsules of heroin, 30 small packets of dagga and two plastic packets of a powdery substance suspected to be drugs. Two suspects aged 40 and 46 were placed under arrest for possession and dealing in drugs,” Mbele said.

She said the men were expected to appear before the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
