Durban — KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested and linked three men to business robberies in Cato Manor, Durban.

The men were linked to a number of robberies days after their arrest.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that on August 7, at 4pm, Cato Manor police on patrol came across a white vehicle with three men inside.

When the driver of the vehicle saw the police, he sped off, resulting in a chase.

“The police gave chase and intercepted the vehicle in Dunbar Road. The vehicle was searched and the police recovered a gas gun under the front seat,” Gwala said.

Police found that the vehicle had false number plates and questioned the three men, who failed to produce valid documents for the vehicle.

“Investigations established that the vehicle was stolen in Point. One of the men offered the officers money in exchange for their freedom. They were all placed under arrest for possession of suspected stolen property and for displaying false registration plates,” Gwala said.

She said the suspects, who ranged in age from 18 to 21, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on August 8, and were remanded in custody.

“On August 12, 2022, an intensive investigation was conducted and the men were positively linked to other cases of business robberies committed in Durban and surrounding areas during the period of May and June. They appeared before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on August 15, 2022.”
