Durban - A 31-year-old man is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs in Umbilo.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that on Sunday at noon, police officers from the eThekwini District Drug Team acted on information about a house in Umbilo where drugs were stored.

Gwala said it was also reported that the drugs were stored and distributed around the Durban CBD and surrounding areas. The team proceeded to a house on Mountain Rise Road in Umbilo, where a search was conducted.

“Police found different capsules and 1kg of unpacked heroin powder. A 31-year-old male was placed under arrest for possession and dealing in drugs,” Gwala said.

“The recovered drugs are valued at R85 000.”

Meanwhile, an alleged drug dealer is expected to appear before the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he was arrested for drug dealing in uMhlanga, north of Durban.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said the suspect, 35, was arrested on Sunday by Hawks officers from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation.

Mhlongo said officers had received information about a suspect who was dealing in drugs at his residence and proceeded to the premises.

“A search was conducted and heroin powder to an estimated street value of approximately R40 000 was found. Weighing equipment, 100 000 empty capsules and R5 250 suspected to be proceeds of crime were seized,” Mhlongo said.

He said the man was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. He was expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
