Durban — A multidisciplinary operation in Ballito yielded positive results with the arrest of a suspect with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition while an undisclosed amount of drugs and alcohol were also found and booked by the police.

Chapman Security Solutions reported that a multidisciplinary operation was conducted with Umhlali SAPS recently.

The security company’s teams assisted the police with general stop-and-go searches within the greater Ballito area.

Chapman Security said one suspect was arrested for carrying an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. An undisclosed amount of drugs and alcohol were also found and booked by the police.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that Umhlali police arrested a 45-year-old man for the illegal possession of a firearm and he was expected to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Ngcobo said on Friday, September 9, at 4.30pm, police were conducting crime prevention duties on the R102 when they stopped a taxi.

“On searching the vehicle police found the suspect in possession of a firearm. He was taken to the Umhlali police station where he was charged accordingly,” Ngcobo said.
