DURBAN - THE new ActionSA chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal, Musa Kubheka, has revealed that his party would be a kingmaker in the province after the 2024 general elections.
In a exclusive interview with the Daily News on Sunday, about his vision as the new leader in the province, Kubheka said he did not accept the position but the challenge that comes with it, saying he regarded it as a challenge because it came at a time when there were only two years left before the 2024 general elections.
He vowed to work hard and said his party would play a major role in unseating the ANC in the province, and be the kingmaker.
“Firstly, I wish to thank my party for entrusting me with such an important position in provincial politics. Our founder has given marching orders (to the ANC) to make sure that we bring them below 50% everywhere it governs and we have done that in local government elections as many people saw. In my province, I can tell you that my party will be in government together with our coalition partners come the 2024 general elections,” said Kubheka.
He added that his first task would be to criss-cross the province launching branches and ensuring there was unity, so they would go to the elections strong and united.
Kubheka, who is also a pastor with eThekwini Community Church under bishop Vusi Dube, was born and raised in Steadville township in Ladysmith.
After completing his matric at Ngula High School in the same area, he moved to Pietermaritzburg where he did his computer studies.
Between 2000 and 2009 he worked as fleet officer for the eThekwini Water and Sanitation Department.
His political consciousness started when he joined South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), where he was elected as shop steward.
He then moved to become full-time pastor at Dube’s church and was moved to head the church’s branch in Melmoth.
While there, he found work as a supervisor for street sweepers under the Mthonjaneni Municipality.
In 2017, he found work at Grindrod Terminal in Richards Bay and was retrenched in 2020.
He moved back to Durban and focused on his event management and printing companies.
He joined ActionSA in May last year and was appointed eThekwini regional chairperson, a position he held until his new appointment as provincial chairperson.
After the local government elections the party appointed him as chief whip, the position he said he would continue to hold despite his new appointment.
