Durban- The gang of armed robbers that shot and wounded a 57-year-old Malvern woman in her home had pounced on another family in the area on Friday.

Captain Nqobile Gwala, KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson, said three men held up a family in their home on Leeway Road just before midday. This was just a street away from where Marcelle Meiring, 57, was shot on Wednesday afternoon.

"The family were held up at gunpoint. They were robbed of electronics and valuables. None of the family members was injured," she said.

Police said the men had on white gloves and were all carrying firearms. Police described them as trigger happy and violent and urged the public not to confront them.

A case of house robbery was opened at Malvern police station and no arrest has been made at this stage.

Immediately after the message of the robbery was posted on social media, several neighbourhood watches had claimed they fell victim to the same blue polo gang in Chatsworth and Shallcross.

Meanwhile, Meiring is still in a critical condition in hospital. She was shot in the stomach during the robbery in Park Road. Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said four men had entered the Meiring home.
