Durban - A man was stabbed to death at a tavern in the Durban city centre on Monday morning. 

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani  Zwane, a KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, said that on Sunday night a 30-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a known suspect in Joseph Nduli (Russell) Street. 

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the officers had responded to a block of flats in Diakonia Avenue in Albert Park where the accused had fled from the scene of the crime to hide.     
“The victim was a local man who was busy having a drink and chatting to friends at a local tavern when the accused approached him. An altercation broke out and the accused produced a knife and stabbed the victim several times. The victim was declared dead at the scene,” Mathios said.

The accused fled the scene and ran into a building to hide. Mathios said security officers and responded swiftly to the scene and arrested him.

The accused, aged 28, was arrested by Durban Central police for murder and is appearing in the Durban Magistrates court on Monday.
