The National Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal says the amount of money being spent by the state to upgrade President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla residence is “morally wrong and unjustifiable”. It is among the latest critics of the upgrades, which are set to cost the taxpayer about R250 million.

“Why is Nkandla favoured above all other rural areas? This is totally unacceptable,” said NFP chairman, Vikizitha Mlotshwa.

The party called on the public protector to expedite the probe into the developments.

Meanwhile, the SACP in the province said it would go ahead with its planned march in Nkandla on Saturday. The march is aimed at highlighting the party’s support of the developments to the president’s hometown.

Thousands of members from across the province were expected to take part in the march. – Daily News Reporter
