Durban - Concerned parents locked the gates to Greenbury Primary School in Phoenix to prevent a newly appointed principal from entering on Monday.

Tammy Govender, one of the parents, said they were told on Friday that a new school principal would take over on Monday.

The parents are now waiting for feedback from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education (DOE)officials and the school governing body. They are locked in a meeting in the principals office. The parents are seated in one of the classrooms.

Govender said the current principal had a longstanding relationship with the parents and was worthy of his job title. Parents claim that they do not have any details on the principal and her status with the DOE.

"She was allocated to the school without consultation. We do not know her background. The school is operating as normal. We did not want to disrupt the school learning process. The teachers were allowed to continue. We want answers," Govender said.
