Durban -  Police have warned that more drug dealers could be behind bars before the festive season.

This comes after two drug dealers are expected to make their appearance in the KwaDukuza Magistrates court on Monday.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, said the Provincial Drug Unit, K9 Unit with the KwaDukuza Task Team arrested the dealers, aged 26 and 30 on Friday at the Shakaville informal settlement.

Mbele said police recovered a total of 1080 capsules of heroin with cash suspected to be the proceeds from the drug trade.

Police first arrested the 30-year-old dealer with 810 capsules of heroin with R3000-00 in cash. Police then proceeded to the Umhlali policing area where another suspect was arrested at Etete area. He was found with 270 capsules of heroin.

The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is more than R32 000-00. Both suspects were charged for dealing in drugs and possession of drugs.

Mbele said the arrest follows drug dealing clampdowns in the Port Shepstone and Scottburgh area where five dealers aged from 23 to 61 were arrested.

"They were found with a total of 1575 capsules of heroin, with an estimated street value of R50 000-00. They appeared in the Port Shepstone and Scottburgh Magistrate courts. Such operations are continuing throughout the province and drug dealers should be aware that they will face the same fate soon as festive season operations have been stepped up," Mbele warned.
