Durban — The acclaimed French film, EIFFEL, released by Videovision Entertainment in South Africa on Friday has emerged as one of the Top 10 films released this past weekend.

The film achieved this position with a modest 10 screens, in comparison to many multi-million dollar productions which had the advantage of being on more than 70 screens.

EIFFEL, directed by Martin Bourboulon and boasting leading French actors Romain Duris, Emma Mackey and Pierre Deladonchamps, explores the romantic back story of the Eiffel Tower.

Having just finished his collaboration on the Statue of Liberty, celebrated engineer Gustave Eiffel is on top of the world. Now, the French government is pressuring him to design something spectacular for the 1889 Paris World Fair, but Eiffel simply wants to design the subway.

Suddenly, everything changes when Eiffel crosses paths with a mysterious woman from his past. Their long-lost, forbidden passion inspires him to change the Paris skyline forever.

Videovision Entertainment’s director of acquisition and distribution, Sanjeev Singh said he was thrilled with EIFFEL’s performance at the South African box office in its opening weekend, especially having opened in the Top 10 in the face of fierce competition from blockbuster films.

“We are confident that the film will hold well and maintain its box office allure,” Singh said.

Critics have praised the film with rave reviews.

Videovision Entertainment along with sponsorship partners have mounted an exciting competition for EIFFEL. The competition can be entered on the following web page: https://www.videovision.co.za/eiffelcompetition/
