Durban — One person died following a head-on collision between a light delivery vehicle and VW Citi Golf in uMhlanga this morning.

According to Emer-G-Med paramedics who responded, they arrived at the scene on the M4 Ruth First Highway near uMhlanga Rocks just after 7am, where the driver of the Golf was declared dead.

“On arrival at the scene, a light delivery vehicle and a Volkswagen Citi Golf were found to have collided head-on at high speed. The driver and only occupant of the Golf, a male believed to be approximately 40 years of age, was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics,” said spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.

He said that two occupants of the light delivery vehicle suffered moderate injuries and were treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

Outside Ladysmith yesterday, 24 people were injured when a truck rear-ended a stationary taxi on the N3.

In Johannesburg a mother and baby had to be airlifted to a specialist facility after a serious collision involving a minibus taxi in the Chloorkop area.
