VIDEO & PICS: KZN police undergo physical training

Durban-  Hundreds of the police officers from the various police stations in Kwa-Zulu Natal converged on the Curries Fountain Stadium in Durban for physical fitness assessments on Wednesday. 

The physical fitness programme for both policemen and women entailed a summative assessment of the individual. Most of the officers were weighed on a scale. 

They participated in non-competitive sporting codes, volleyball, soccer and tug of war. Perhaps the most exerting exercise was push-ups. 

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla  Mkhwanazi joined the mass aerobics exercise programme leading by example. The training assessments are also to keep in check police officers for the festive season. 

Police officers do a set of push-ups at the Curries Fountain stadium. Police personnel of different clusters in Durban took part in the training of Summative Physical Fitness.

Bheki Cele, Minister of police, encouraged police officers to take up regular exercises to beat stress and tension. 

"We are here to support you in the work that you do but you must equally take care of your health first. Go for health screenings regularly to detect lifestyle diseases earlier. But most importantantly excercise to ensure that we continue to chase and catch criminals." Cele said.
