Durban- Fifty-one people have died and hundreds have been displaced in flash floods across KwaZulu-Natal.
Nomusa Dube-Ncube, the MEC of Cogta in KwaZulu-Natal confirmed the number at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The Provincial Disaster Management Centre was abuzz with officials from various local government departments meeting before the arrival of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Dube-Ncube said Ramaphosa has cut short his African Union itinerary abroad to lead government visits to areas that were devastated by flooding in KZN on Monday night.
"The inclement weather conditions have claimed 51 casualties in eThekwini alone and damaged scores of private homes and properties. Ramaphosa is expected to meet victims and survivors of the floods,"she said.
Ramaphosa is expected to visit Amanzimtoti, Chatsworth,Umlazi, Clermont and Mariannhill on Wednesday.

Rockview Road in Amanzimtoti suffered the worst infrastructural damage.
In Umlazi 265 people have been displaced.
While in Umlazi Ramaphosa is expected to inspect the damages to the Prince Mshiyeni Hospital.
In Burlington, Chatsworth 300 people have been displaced.
In Tshelimnyama outside of Marianhill 15 people died.
At the KwaShembe Hall in Clermont 200 people who were displaced have taken shelter in the hall.
