OPINION - The Orlando Pirates coach, Milutin Sredojevic, needs to start to deliver if he wants to stay for a longer period at the team.

He has been at the team for more than 17 months but has delivered nothing. Eyebrows were raised on Saturday when Pirates were defeated by unfashionable Baroka.

The questions are now being raised about Sredojevic’s acumen to coach a major team such as Pirates.

Although the expulsion of Marshall Munetsi for a reckless and dangerous tackle on a Baroka player played a part in Pirates’ defeat, the technical team’s poor decisions also contributed to the team’s loss.

The choice of the goalkeeper was wrong. Siyabonga Mpontshane is error-prone and on Saturday his mistakes cost the team. Augustine Mulenga was kept in the game for a long time although he was ineffective.

A more forceful player such as Thabo Qalinge should have been introduced earlier to the game to put pressure on Baroka’s defence.

The penalty shoot-out was awful and it seems there was no practising before the game.

Pirates cannot afford to make elementary mistakes. The time is running out for Sredojevic and if he does not improve, he will find himself unemployed next season.
