Durban - A taxi transporting children crashed into a tree in Isipingo on Tuesday morning.

According to ER 24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, 21 children were injured following the accident on Ramadas Road in Isipingo, KwaZulu Natal.

"ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at just after 7am to find a taxi on the side of the road against a tree. Several children were found either seated on the side of the road or seated in other vehicles.

"Paramedics assessed the patients and found that 21 children, believed to be aged 9 and 12, had sustained minor to moderate injuries. "Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found on the scene."

Meiring added that the children were treated for their injuries on the scene, and were thereafter transported by various services to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The driver of the taxi did not sustain any injuries.

He said details surrounding the accident were unknown.

SAPS were on scene.
