DURBAN - ONE of Durban’s blossoming gqom stars, TDK MaCassette, released her first song under her new record label on Friday.

TDK, whose real name is Thandeka Mkhwanazi is also known as the ‘gqom barbie’, not to be mistaken with Babes Wodumo, who is known as the ‘gqom queen’.

The 26-year-old performer was signed by Universal Music in February this year and has been featured in gqom hits by Rude Boyz and DJ Maphorisa in the past year.

Speaking to Independent Media on Friday, TDK said she never imagined she would be a singer despite growing up in the entertainment space, mainly as a dancer.

She said she got her break in the music industry when she was providing corporate services to DJ Maphorisa after they had been to a corporate gig.

The public relations and communications student said they were on the way home in the car when DJ Maphorisa played a beat and she started singing to it and adding catchy hooks.

The song  Goosheshe  was then recorded in studio and was featured on DJ Maphorisa's Gqom Wave album.

“So I didn’t stop from there, when I saw the gigs coming in I was like ‘say what’. I said let me try it, let me continue,” she said.

TDK said she was excited by the reception her song was receiving on social media.

She said she would wine and dine three winners to the five star Beverly Hills or the Hilton Hotel in Umhlanga for the craziest interpretations of the Domoroza dance, but they had to post and tag her on social media.

I'm not a dancer, no, but I was persuaded to try a new move yesterday.. I laughed at myself so hard😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.. #TDKDanceChallenge @UMGSA pic.twitter.com/m4ai7vQ5a5
