Durban - Carmen Lee, the mother of murdered Durban North woman, Siam Lee, joined thousands of women who marched under the banner of #TheTotalShutdown on Wednesday.
Lee said she joined the march because of the personal message that it carried for her.

Siam was kidnapped from outside her home in Hillcrest earlier this year. Days later, her charred remains were found in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

The man believed to be behind Lee’s kidnap and murder is due back in court this month.

Speaking to the Daily News, Lee said she was marching in memory of her daughter.

“Abuse is something that has affected my life and the life of my daughter,” Lee said.

Earlier in the day, women gathered at Curries Fountain for #TheTotalShutdown march which mirrored marches across the country.

The march is expected to end at the Durban City Hall where a Memorandum of understanding will be handed over to an official from local government
