Durban - In light of Women’s Month, the eThekwini Municipality in a series of Facebook posts is shining the light on women making a difference in different municipal departments.

From firefighters to tractor drivers, the eThekwini Municipality celebrates imbokodo excelling in their respective fields and representing women all over.

Candice Clarke is a firefighter in the Fire and Emergency Services Unit.

Clarke says being a woman in the unit means she is able to be an inspiration to other women and girls to show them they can follow any career path.

“The most important thing in this job is passion. I draw strength from the incredibly tenacious women that surround me in my department, and it’s those women whose shoulders I stand firmly upon so younger generations of women can stand firmly on mine.”

Nqobile Radebe, a tractor driver for the Parks Department.

As a tractor driver, Radebe’s duties include cutting grass at sports fields, parks, and in open spaces.

“It gives me a sense of pride to know I’m this brave and strong young woman who can do this kind of job in a male-dominated sector.”

Radebe says she views the world as full of possibilities and opportunities.

“I’m a dedicated and proactive worker who always goes the extra mile in my work,” she said.

Claire Norton, a senior manager for the Land Use Management.

She is responsible for the management of the land use scheme that guides and regulates development in accordance with the applicable planning legislation and the municipality’s strategic plans and policies.

“I’ve always had an interest in geography, especially settlement geography.”
