Amanda Bynes’ mother has taken the star off medication, claiming her daughter does not suffer from Schizophrenia. Sources close to the troubled actress hacve however expressed their concern, and rejected the mother’s claim that Amanda’s only problem was marijuana.

Amanda’s mother, Lynn Bynes, has stated that all her daughter’s problems emanated from her dabbling with marijuana and now, since Amanda is weed-free, she is off all medication.

"She has no mental illness whatsoever," said Lynn, who claims that Amanda hasn’t had any psychotic episodes in the last few months.

Her diagnosis flies in the face of documented evidence that Amanda has serious mental problems.

Last year, the actress was placed on an LPS Hold when a judge listened to evidence given by the psychiatric hospital where she was being held. According to Californian law, says gossip site TMZ, one can only be placed on an LPS Hold if you are "gravely disabled as the result of a mental disorder or impairment by chronic alcoholism." Doctors gave evidence of grave mental illness.

Furthermore, Lynn Bynes won a temporary conservatorship of her daughter when a court-appointed investigator testified that Amanda was mentally ill. This order was granted shortly after Bynes doused her dog in gasoline and almost set it on fire.

Amanda’s legal team in both California and New York both were granted delays in criminal proceedings because Amanda was judged to be mentally ill.

Other sources told TMZ that the star was given a complex drugs cocktail in the psychiatric hospital in Ventura County designed to specifically for the treatment of Schizophrenia. It was here that Amanda would tell the doctors about “Bad Amanda” and would bite herself. TMZ’s sources also claim that during Amanda’s stay at a UCLA psych ward, she was so incoherent she had to be restrained.
