50 Cent really put his foot in it when he poked fun at the Japanese disaster this week.

According to the Daily Mail, the rapper took to his Twitter account this week to comment on the catastrophe in which thousands have died and millions have been displaced.

“Look this is very serious people I had to evacuate all my hoes from LA, Hawaii and Japan. I had to do it. Lol,” he Tweeted.

50 Cent appeared somewhat contrite later, saying: “Nah this is nuts but what can anyone do about it. Let’s pray for anyone who has lost someone”.

The rapper later encouraged people not to take his comments too seriously, claiming he Tweeted mainly for shock value.

“Some of my tweets are ignorant I do it for shock value. Hate it or love it. I’m cool either way 50cent.”

50’s remarks were sent out as the American West Caost was put on a tsunami alert following the Japanese disaster.

“'Wave will hit 8am them crazy white boys gonna try to go surfing.” he joked.

For American comedian Gilbert Gottfried, jokes about the disaster came at a price. The 56-year-old comedian was fired by an insurance company who used his voice in ad campaigns.

“I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, ‘They'll be another one floating by any minute now’,” Gottfried Tweeted on Saturday.

He followed that joke up with another. “What does every Japanese person have in their apartment? Flood lights.”

Insurance company Aflac were not amused. “Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac,” a spokesperson for the firm said. - IOL Tonight
