Britney Spears is a bigamist - according to British TV presenter Richard Bacon. The star - who was sacked from popular BBC children's show Blue Peter for taking cocaine - claims he legally wed the sexy singer while interviewing her in a hotel room shortly after she split from boyfriend Justin Timberlake in March 2002.
Bacon claims he got down on one knee and popped the question to the Toxic singer - who is now married to dancer Kevin Federline - and to his amazement she said "yes."
The TV star had a real vicar waiting on hand with a genuine marriage certificate which both Britney and Richard signed - making the marriage legally binding.
Bacon told listeners on his London Capital radio show: "I went down on one knee in front of her and said 'would you marry me?' and she said 'hey sure'.
"I signalled to the vicar, the vicar walks in with the real marriage
certificate. I sign it, she signs it, vicar pronounces us married.
"I'm walking off when this massive security guard comes after me, takes the certificate and tears it up as he realised what I'd done and that it was legally binding."
Although the certificate was destroyed, Bacon claims the marriage still exists because an ordained vicar conducted the ceremony complete with witnesses.
He added: "You can't just get rid of it by tearing it up which means I
actually could still be legally married to Britney, which means her marriage to Kevin doesn't exist and that Britney Spears is a bigamist."
But a spokesperson for Britney has denied the claims, saying: "Sorry to break Richard's heart, but Britney Spears is legally married to her husband Kevin Federline and is expecting their first child together very soon. I hope Richard is able to accept this and move on from what must be a confusing time for him."
