London - Staff who work from home spend an extra month at their desks every year, research has found.

The flexibility allows them to do the school run or go to appointments but they still work 24 days more a year than office-based colleagues, says the study.

They were also more likely to take on voluntary overtime, because it will not keep them away from their families.

But home workers are treated with suspicion by colleagues, the survey of 1 000 employees by video conference firm UCi2i found. One in four office staff said those who work from home are “cheating the system”.

And 84 percent said they were “uncomfortable” with workmates who are not physically close to them.

However, 94 percent of workers felt they produced better quality work from home, thanks to the peace and quiet and not having to spend time on a long daily commute. - Daily Mail
