Durban-based designer Kathrin Kidger, known for dressing some of South Africa’s celebrities, said, “This summer is all about romance. And sleeves are ruffled, punched and the interest point of most garments.

“This season is all about vibrant, brilliant colour and bold, playful patterns. Picking a print that resonates with you is key.

“Whether it is blooms, dewy fruit, strong graphics or paisley it’s all about wearing it head to toe.

“To wear this look right, add prints to prints that have the same hues and vary the fabrication accordingly. As a result it is imperative not to clutter the look with too much accessorising”.

When it comes to colours, candy confections like pastels are still fashionable.

“Make the most of this trend by wearing a frothy tulle dress that really embodies this theme.

“For an edgy feel, pair it with a super-tailored linen jacket,” Kidger said.

What make-up should you be wearing this summer?

This year we are doing summer smokey; it’s about a smokey eye by using just one colour. Goth eyeliner is also a huge trend.

As you can tell, we are looking at statement eye make-up this summer – a cat eye liquid eyeliner and stick-on lashes are a must. Pair a statement eye with nude lips and you are good to go.

What is the one make-up accessory you have to have?

Liquid liner and those stick-on lashes, a highlighter and fix spray.

What must you absolutely stop doing this summer?

You should never think you can instantly recreate a look you see on popular Instagram pages. Those images are edited, they use great lighting and most times it looks like stage make-up, and when you try it, you look cakey and grey.

Try just a luminous foundation and as little powder as possible, so you look fresh, not harsh.
