How to make ShowMax kid friendly

Control what your kids watch on ShowMax worry-free, whatever their age. Here’s how.

Launched last year, ShowMax internet TV gives parents the ability to stream thousands of quality kids shows and movies for just R99 a month.

ShowMax’s kids section includes everything from Shaun the Sheep and Thomas and Friends to Liewe Heksie and the latest Marvel and Disney cartoons.

How to keep kids safe with kids profiles

ShowMax isn’t just for kids though and most parents wouldn’t want their kids stumbling onto the latest season of Game of Thrones when searching for dragons! With a single subscription, parents can watch their favourite show on the big screen while the kids watch cartoons on a tablet.

The kids profiles feature makes it possible to protect children by ensuring only age-appropriate content is accessible.

Four different profiles are available on ShowMax

Younger kids (under 7)

Older kids (8-12)

Teens (13-16)

The default Kids Profile is set to the lowest age rating and viewing is suitable for children under 7.

How to create a kids profile

To create profiles on the web app:

Go to and sign in

Click on the user name (upper right of the screen)

Click on my account > profiles > add profile.

Age settings and PIN codes can be set here.

To create profiles on Android and iOS apps

Click on the menu button (top left of the screen)

Click on my account > profiles > add profile.

If profiles are being used to limit the content available to children, it’s best to PIN protect any profiles that contain adult viewing. Once a profile is PIN-code protected, the watchlist and recently watched summaries from one profile aren’t visible to other profiles.

Profiles can be used on ShowMax’s Android, iOS, Apple TV (4th generation), and web apps. Up to 11 different profiles can be created. For Apple TV app users, first create the kids’ profile via the website..
