Frank Parker has died.

The 'Days of Our Lives' actor - who played Grandpa Shawn Brady on the daytime soap for 25 years until he retired when his character was killed off in 2008 - passed away due to complications from Parkinson's disease and dementia on 16 September in Vacaville, California.

An obituary published by his family, including wife Mary Jean Dunning Garofalo and his two daughters Danielle Dallas and Lindsay Kyle - who were both from his first marriage to Nola Donelle Rajcok - described the 'General Hospital' actor as a "people person" who was "loved by everyone".

The tribute, which was published in The Reporter and on Legacy.com said: "Frank was a people person; he touched many lives and was loved by everyone. He could light up a room with his singing voice and was known to burst into song at any moment.

"He was a ham and loved the spotlight. Above all, he was the most supportive, generous, kind man and father. Frank loved his family."

A number of other stars from the soap have paid tribute to the actor.

Stephen Nichols posted: "Rest In Peace Frank Parker Good man Good actor. Best TV pop in law So full of Blarney and Joy! Much love on your Journey. #days nbcdays (sic)"

And James Reynolds tweeted: "#FrankParker, #PaBrady loved to sing and with a smile would burst into song. RIP Frank! @nbcdays @DaysofourLives #TheBradys #Days @FremontCTheatre #YR #GH (sic)"

Frank's health was reportedly beginning to decline around the time he left 'Days of Our Lives' so he stepped away from acting for good, over 40 years after he began his career.

A rosary in his honour will take place on Wednesday (26.09.18), while his funeral will be held in Los Angeles at a later date.
