American TV star and creator of the popular television series 'Insecure', Issa Rae, is currently in South Africa for the In Good Company Experience.

Hosted by actress and media personality Nomzamo Mbatha and the conference founder Jabu Gwala, a press conference was held in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.

The In Good Company Experience is a dialogue for women held by women in an effort to support and push women further in whatever industries they pursue.

Speaking at the conference, Rae — who was a keynote speaker— opened up about dealing with rejection in the industry. She also spoke about the hardships of trying to make a name Hollywood, and the sacrifices she's had to make.

Rae added that she was constantly told "there was no room for her stories"

“The journey started in college. I had a lot of work to do and I’ve been trying to break in (to) the industry since I was 21 and constantly told that there is no room for my stories," she said.

The star said she has been discouraged many times but she kept her dream alive.

As an upcoming woman in today's society, the word "no" can sometimes be all too familiar and seem like failure. Here's how @IssaRae views "failure"👆🏾#IGCExperience
