Mark Wahlberg is in for the slime of his life.

The Hollywood superstar has just been unveiled as the host for the 27th annual Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards.

This action packed ceremony, which features gallons of slime being dumped on some of the world’s biggest celebrities, seeks to honour the hottest in music, film and TV. It’s up to Nickelodeon’s young fans to decide who walk home with the coveted “blimp”trophy.

Landing Oscar and Golden Globe nominated actor/producer Wahlberg as the host is a major coup for Nickelodeon.

“We are thrilled to welcome a superstar like MarkWahlberg as he takes the helm as our master of ceremonies at the biggest kid event of the year,” said Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon’s President of Content Development and Production.

“We can’t wait for him to take the stage and have lots of slime-filled fun with Hollywood’s biggest stars and our audience.”

Wahlberg earned both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for his work in the gritty true-life family boxing film The Fighter, and on Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed drama The Departed. He is also an accomplished producer of films such as Lone Survivor, 2 Guns and Boardwalk Empire. He is also a committed philanthropist, and started the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation in 2001 to benefit inner city children and teens.

Nickelodeon fans will be able to vote for their favourite actors, shows, movies, and musicians online. Viewers can log on to www.nickelodeonafrica.com and, for the first time ever, cast their votes in country-specific categories like “Favourite South African DJ”.

Last year, a staggering 392-million votes were cast in 22 categories.

Nickelodeon’s 27th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs), premieres on Nickelodeon (DStv Channel 305) on Wednesday April 2 at 5pm CAT.
