Shawn Mendes has played down rumours he is dating Hailey Baldwin after the pair made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala this week.
The 19-year-old singer and songwriter seemingly made his rumoured romance with Hailey official when they pair stepped out onto the red carpet together at the Met Gala earlier this week, but he has now insisted the pair are just "really good friends".

Speaking about the Met Gala to W Magazine, he said: "We're really good friends. It's funny, she's such a pro with this type of stuff. I want it to be amazing for her, so I've been trying for the past 24 hours to be really silly so that she stays on. I'm happy to walk with her - she's amazing."

The 'Youth' hitmaker and the 21-year-old model made their red carpet debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday (07.05.18), which many people had taken as confirmation of their romance, which has been speculated for several months.
Shawn and Hailey have both avoided questions about their rumoured relationship since last year, when they were spotted holding hands at a Halloween Party and cuddling in the 'Mercy' singer's hometown of Toronto during the festive period.
Previously, pink-haired beauty Hailey claimed she "laughs off" questions about her love life, despite dubbing Shawn as "amazing".
She said: "I just laugh most of it off. It's quite funny to me, to be honest. I try to keep that side of my life as private as possible. I don't feel like I have to explain myself to people because it's my life."
Hailey had previously revealed what she is looking for in her ideal partner, which included a good sense of humour, and admitted she was "very picky".
She shared: "I look for somebody who's like funny and can make me laugh. I'm very, very picky, like I am particularly very specific and I know like pretty much immediately if I'm gonna get along with somebody in the capacity of dating or not. I mean, I hang out with people obviously and get to know them. It takes me a long time to feel like I can warm up to somebody before I ever even consider dating them."
