Life of a yummy mummy

At 13 weeks, Kim and Kate’s unborn babies are a mere 10cm tall and could fit into the palm of your hand. The baby’s are so tiny – 14 grams – that neither mom will have yet felt any movement. The only thing they will have by now is their own distinctive fingerprints.

They may be no bigger than a large prawn or a computer mouse, but already the hype over the impending births is huge, filling celebrity magazines and gossip columns the length and breadth of the planet.

This week the future King and Queen of England, William and Kate, revealed that their baby’s upbringing is going to be “as normal as possible”.

According to Showbiz Spy, the Royal couple are keen to raise their son or daughter the way they want to – much the same as Princess Diana did with her own sons when she broke away from royal tradition and opted for a hands-on parenting approach.

William is painfully aware of what it’s like to grow up with the burden of being the future monarch hanging over his head. It’s no surprise then that following the birth this June, Kate will not make any journeys abroad and will stay away from the limelight.

Kim Kardashian, who some might say is the equivalent of the young British “royals”, with the media following her every move, will not go the same low-key route.

Already offers have flooded in that will make the reality television star and her child millions. At this point, however, there are no plans to include the baby in Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Kim has, to the relief of many, turned down the idea of a “Kim Gives Birth” television special.

Whereas Kate and William were married long before any news of a pregnancy was announced, Kim is still married to her former partner, basketball player Kris Humphries, who according to California law is presumed to be the father of Kim’s unborn child. The divorce may only go through after the baby is born.

Not that the legalities are of much concern to Kim’s new partner, rapper, movie director and fashion designer Kanye West, ranked by Time magazine as one of the most influential people on the planet.

He made the announcement of Kim’s pregnancy and his soon-to-be fatherhood during a rap concert in Atlantic City last weekend – very different from the royal announcement that came short and sweet via St James Palace.

One similarity is that both pregnant moms-to-be have parents that are not shy to use their children’s high profile status to promote their own business.

Kate Middleton’s parents Carole and Michael have launched a range of baby goods on their party website, including paper plates announcing “a new little prince”. Another new “Princess Party” line has also just popped up. The “Little Prince” and “Little Princess” party packs are described as suitable for baby showers, christening parties or first birthday celebrations.

Kris Jenner, Kim’s mom, formerly married to OJ Simpson’s lawyer the late Robert Kardashian and now married to former Olympic gold medallist Bruce Jenner, takes celebrity business into a whole new stratosphere.

“Anything for an extra dollar is a good thing” is the philosophy of this American businesswoman. The concept has earned millions of dollars for her extended family of six children and two, soon to be three, grandchildren. The Kardashian family, thanks to her, are as valuable as the crown jewels.

Reportedly Kris was upset at Kanye for last week’s announcement, believing that it could have brought in hundreds of dollars as an “exclusive” media release. The same mistake won’t be made over the first baby pictures, expected to earn several million dollars.

William and Kate’s first pictures of their baby will have no price tag, as the birth will be deemed a national event. Girl or boy, the new arrival will be heir to the throne.

The names of the new famous babies will also be very different. The royal list will include for boys, George, James, Alfred, Frederick and Edward, and for girls, Sophie, Amelia, Victoria, Elizabeth and Diana.

Bookmakers are offering six to one that the royal baby will be a redhead.

The bets are that Kim and Kanye’s baby will have a name starting with K to go with the rest of the family. Already in the line-up are Kris, Kim, Kourtney, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie. New names could include Kauai, Kashmir, Kimberly, the Sanskrit Kashmire, the Japanese Kyoto, Kadence, Kalliope or Kalypso.

E! network executives, the promoters of the Kardashian television phenomenon, are rubbing their hands in anticipation.

“Kim and Kanye are an incredibly dynamic couple, and their baby news is just so exciting,” said network president Suzanne Kolb. “We love it when this close-knit family gets even bigger. We look forward to sharing the joy as they prepare for nappies, bottles and without a doubt fabulous baby wear.”

If the New York Post’s report on Kim’s last wedding is anything to go by the asking price for baby West will also be huge. Kim earned $15 million plus profit for a two-part wedding special and $2.5-million for exclusive photos in People magazine.

For the royal baby, however, it will mean one official photograph on the front page of The Daily Telegraph and possibly a new set of party balloons, courtesy of its grandparents.
