A LAST-minute push by Compu- ticket, selling tickets for R99 instead of the original price of R200 to R1 250, steered Eminem’s Cape Town concert on Wednesday closer to sold out.

Publicist Penny Stein confirmed that close to 30 000 tickets had been sold for the Cape Town Stadium concert.

There will be no park-and-ride facilities, fan walk access or special concessions on MyCiTi buses for the concert. The gates open at 3.40pm for Golden Circle ticket holders, 4pm for general admission and 4.20pm for seated ticket holders.

Afrikaans rapper Jack Parow takes the stage at 6pm and New York rapper Action Bronson goes on at 7.30pm for half an hour each.

Bronson is a 30-year-old rapper who used to be a respected gourmet chef in New York. He often raps about food in his music and is working on his first major studio release.

Eminem hits the stage at 9pm, with professional photographers strictly forbidden from shooting any footage.

Security officials will be hard pressed to stop regular fans from whipping out their smartphones, though, and tweeting up a storm has become the norm at big-ticket concerts at the stadium.

Eminem’s promotional machine will supply interested media outlets with carefully selected pictures, in the same way that Beyoncé started issuing approved photos last year in a bid to stop unflattering photographs from going viral.

While traditional media outlets were limited to a handful of carefully managed photographers, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram were awash with everything from blurry snaps to naff pics, which received more attention than any of the official photos.

Eminem angered fans who could not get tickets to the Reading Festival last year, when he stopped the BBC from broadcasting his performance.

Tweets from some fans attending the performance suggested that a few audience members accused him of miming the entire concert.

So one has to wonder what one of the world’s best selling artists is trying to censor by controlling professional photographers.
