CREATIVE KIDS WORSHOP
THE fun kicks off on Monday when the Durban Botanic Gardens, in association with Durban entertainer Jaziel Vaugh’hann, host three weeks of fun with their Creative Kids Workshop.
Kids’ theatre regulars will know Vaugh’hann from his edutainment offerings Jonah and the Whale and Noah and the Ark. This time, Vaugh’hann and friends are back |for a fun-packed, three-week holiday experience with an exciting new workshop every week.
The first week (Monday to June 29) offers an original story, A David and Goliath Story, with interactive storytelling and fun activities such as dancing and colouring in. Every child also gets a free toy.
In week two (July 2 to 6), kids who like to “move it, move it!” will be treated to loads of great songs and fun dancing tips.
“You even get to paint and you get a free CD to take home and practise your dance moves,” said Vaugh’hann.
Week three (July 9 to 13) sees Vaugh’hann and entertainer Kerry Cherry hosting a workshop on new and creative ways to have fun with chocolate.
“And you get to take home a handmade chocolate treat… Don’t forget to bring an apron,” said Vaugh’hann. “Our creative kid’s workshop will get your children actively involved, teaching them social interaction as well as group activity and independence. And you get to have loads of fun.”
• Tickets for the Creative Kids Workshop are R50 a show/workshop. Shows will run Monday to Friday from 11am to 12.30pm at the Botanic Gardens’s amphitheatre. Snacks and cold drinks will be on sale. Advance booking is advised. The workshop is suitable for children aged four to 12.

PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN
The Actors Unemployed Company presents their first show aimed at children, The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
Marc Kay has adapted the Robert Browning version of the classic tale for the stage. Directed by Clinton Small, the show stars Adam Doré as the title character and Kay as they race about the stage enacting a story filled with magic, comedy and audience interaction.
• The play is 45 minutes long and will run at Eden College from July 1 to 15, Sundays to Fridays at 10am. (There are no shows on Saturdays).

TALES FROM THE BROTHERS GRIMM
Garth Anderson, the Actors |Co-Operative and the Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo present Tales from the Brothers Grimm.
Promising “fun, fantasy and fabulous frolics” the show written and directed by Anderson stars Robyn Hailey Wells telling wonderful fairy tales collected from all over Germany and Europe by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in the 18th and 19th centuries.

CINDERELLA
The Dingalings are back this holiday season to enchant young and old with the fairy tale Cinderella.
Punted as a show for children aged two to 72, Cinderella – Dingalings style – promises loads of laughs and craziness crammed into a classic fairy tale.
There is also an optional boat ride after the show – at an additional cost.

There are also a host of weekend craft and family markets on the go in and around central Durban, with many offering children’s entertainment in the form of face painting, clowns and balloons.
